En passant not available for some reason

You should also know about "En Croissant" He takes your pawn...and then he steals your dinner rolls. :]
The en passant rule was created so that running pawns were allowed to be tripped by their opponents to not abuse the fact that by moving 2 squares they can hurry away and not get captured.

Think about it - if your pawn was on c5 and black's pawn moved 1 square to b6 (originally pawns could only move 1 square, remember?) you could capture it. But if yours was on c6 and black's pawn moved to b6, you couldn't capture it.

The reason en passant must be immediately done is that if yours was on c5, black moved to b6, and you didn't capture, then black would move on to b5 and you wouldn't be able to capture.

Confusing at first, en passant is an important and interesting rule used to counter the advantage of pawns being able to double-move on their first move.
Thanks all you guys, after my 1000 game of chess I'm finally learning the basics XD
