Future of lichess

Hi all,

The following question is directed to #thibault but I wanted to ask it public because maybe it is in some interest of other Players aswell.

First like I told you once before, iam really amazed of this site and love to play and talk here. But what if you decide to quit your work with lichess.org because of (god saving) health problems or something changes in your life.

Are you going to give the leadment to other programmers or will lichess.org be closed? Iam asking because iam not sure if lichess.org is already a small Company or still Hobby programmers who do it as their lifetimeproject only.

This is one of the many benefits of open source projects. Thibault is the owner and creator, but should he decide to move on from Lichess anybody else is free to pick up the torch and carry on. As long as there is a community who wants to see it continue to exist, Lichess will continue to exist.
Should add to that: as long as there are people who will pay for it
But the domain name is registered to someone (Thibault probably) and the servers will be shut down when they're not paid by Thibault anymore.
How will the community pick this up?

Maybe it is time to form a non-profit lichess Verein (association under Swiss or German law) who could own the domain and pay the servers? But maybe this is too much and Thibault will be there for us forever!
Hello,
well, i prefer to think that if Thibault had to leave, he would choose someone he has confidence in to pick up the torch. Someone who would continue his work and keep the state of mind that is cultivated here.

Sorry for my bad english, have a nice day.

Hi,

lichess is a french non-profit association now.

Also I'm not alone, there is a team of volunteers. Two of them have full access to the servers, and are fully capable of taking over.

So don't worry, lichess bus factor is no longer 1. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_factor
As a developer and a chess player I'm impressed by lichess quality, look and features. I don't think such a project could easily collapse ; it's obvious that lichess is led by passionate and competent people. Great job guys!
Cannot really thank him enough.
Merci pour ce prodigieux travail thibault !
