Logo of 2018 chess WC has 6x6 board, and hold your breath, this is not the only problem with it...

This is the most absurd thing I have ever seen as a "chess" promotion.
The logo is a disgrace. The image of a chess player has taken a severe hit. It will be either laughed at or mocked. The goal should be to present our sport in a positive manner to the general public. The logo is inappropriate, disrespectful of the spirit of chess.

Anyone observe erik and jay posing for the cameras? Shameful to represent chess as a sexual encounter.
"I was inspired by the new chess championship logo," said Erik, CEO of Chess.com. "I’ve always felt that chess was a very connecting game—a way to get two people together very intimately on the chessboard.

Really? Chess is an intimate experience? Two players sit across from each other at the chess table. To suggest it is intimate, almost a sexual experience as depicted by the logo, is disturbing.
"I’ve always felt that chess was a very connecting game—a way to get two people together very intimately on the chessboard."

However unfortunately in this logo they do it under the chessboard.

Chess is a fight yes, in that sense it is a sport, but a fight of abstract thoughts, not flesh.

Flesh is dominating eveything. Is it impossible to let abstract thought have a tiny little corner?

Did chess really deserve to be dragged down under the table, into the material world, in such a direct way?

When I first saw this logo I could only think that Ilyumzhinov must have been abducted by aliens for the second time, but this time the code they uploaded into his brain contained a bug.

But now I see that this is deliberate a move to make chess more tabloid, more like everything else is.

I think soon we'll see changes to rules according to which you will get points for captures and checks, as it is already done in chess.com's 4 player variant, where you can mate all your opponents and still lose, just to make things more interesting.

Brave new world.
Im not really angry or sad, the logo can be whatever they want it to be, and im not really suprised, traditional art which attempts to capture the beauty of the real world was rejected along time ago, now we have an art "culture" which loves the abstract, sexual, and disgusting. to think chess is somehow separate from world politics or modern culture would be somewhat stupid to say
WTF is this, I hope it is some kind of a weird joke... under influence of how many drugs would anyone could come up with such a crap logo...
"logo created by Moscow-based studio Shuka Design" okay so russians are just trolling the whole world once again :D
"We’ve been busy for over a year working with artists and designers to develop a perfect key visual" - kids, this is the real way of wasting a YEAR :D
Conclusion: they probably just wanted this kind of controversy, so that more and more discussions arise... should it produce some popularity, nope, rather lots and lots of laugh :D
Ilya Merenzon (World Chess Chief Executive): "It would be nice to bring a little bit of sexual appeal into chess."

Chess is war. Combining war and sexuality usually leads to rape. Getting "raped" is already a metaphor many people use for losing badly in a match. We don't need an official visual depiction of it for a world chess event.

There's no need to implode the psychological and physical barriers between sexuality and a strategy game. If Ilya wants that, he can always try naked Twister.
