There ought to be an "Unfinished" option of game resolution

You still haven't clarified the benefit of claiming unfinished as opposed to claiming a draw. A draw doesn't mean the two players are equal. For example, the stalemate rule (when material is sufficient) is essentially a punishment for failing to checkmate.

It really just means the game was inconclusive. That's what draw means. So what is the difference for 'unfinished'?
__ Bravo -- Full circle back to the hear of the matter! I think the argument for 'unfinished' was made in clear fashion. Yet you don't seem to find the argument compelling enough to warrant something as an alternative to a draw... We are a community with differing opinions.
___ What we have evolved the discussion to is: 1) a teasing out of various types of 'unfinished' games 2) scenarios that generate them 3) means of arbitration 4) labels for the types of unfinished games and 5) how desired/ efficacious the solution(s) might be...

__ If nothing else, this thread shows the commitment -- and the open-mindedness of the vocal 10% -- my conclusion is that I appreciate playing with such individuals
On the topic of adding buttons, can we add one that offers resignation for our opponent. ? ;p
uglysweater, I think that would be used FAR more often than any button with an adjournment option. hahah And it would be the ultimate response to those players who start throwing out draw offers when they are in clearly lost positions.

'How about a draw?'
'How about you resign?'
@ ChessAgent,

Couldn't the PGN record the game as "abandoned" the same way it does when a game is canceled before both sides make a first move?
@grimus

You know, I suppose there is an "abandoned" option in PGN notation, isn't there. Maybe it wouldn't really affect the database if the code that's drawing from it already ignores abandoned games. I'm not entirely sure how it works though.
#35, my answer is the same as #36. I might add that I don't know much about PGN, other than what it says on every student's best friend: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Game_Notation... it says:

Result: the result of the game. This can only have four possible values: "1-0" (White won), "0-1" (Black won), "1/2-1/2" (Draw), or "*" (other, e.g., the game is ongoing).

I guess it could fit into "*" as unfinished...
-In response to 34#-
hahahha, One thing that I can tell you with absolute confidence is that I'd be dishing out a few of them myself :P
Sorry for double posting, but just to correct myself: 'In response to 36#'.

P.s. If there isn't a edit option on the forum posts that I'm somehow missing, there should be one in the future.
Now I feel like an idiot, correcting myself again, turns out it was #34.... it's been a long day.

P.s. On the topic of adding buttons, lets not only add an 'edit button', but also a 'delete' button in regards to the forums.
